Financial Aid

Eligibility

The Financial Aid Office encourages ALL students to apply for financial aid. A student is eligible for financial aid based upon the following criteria:
  • Is a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Has financial need.
  • Has a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate or passed a test approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Maintains satisfactory academic progress.
  • Has been accepted into a degree/diploma program. (Correspondence courses are NOT eligible for financial aid). Telecommunication courses (TV) are eligible ONLY for associate degree courses.
  • Has a valid social security number.
  • Has registered with the Selective Service if required.
  • Does not owe a refund on a Federal grant or is not in default on a Federal educational loan.
Other Eligibility Notes
  • Federal student loans must be repaid.
  • Less-than-half-time students may be eligible for Federal Pell Grants and some other Federal student aid programs.
  • Students who have received a bachelor's degree are not eligible for Federal Pell Grants or FSEOG, but may be eligible for other Federal student aid programs.
  • Students attending two schools in the same enrollment period must inform both financial aid administrators. Students cannot receive Federal Aid at both schools.
  • Conviction of drug distribution or possession may make a student ineligible.

The Information Center will:
  • Assist you in completing the FAFSA.
  • Tell you whether a school participates in the federal student aid programs, and the school's default rate.
  • Explain federal student aid eligibility requirements.
  • Explain the process of determining financial need and awarding aid.
Call the Information Center at 319.337.5665 if you want to find out if your federal student financial aid application has been processed or if you want a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR). Please note that you will have to pay for this call. Collect calls cannot be accepted, and this service is not available on the toll-free number.
