How do I log into a computer on campus?
You will be issued a network login and password only if you are a registered student for the current term. You are notified of your login id and password via letter before the term starts. Typically your login will be your full last name and first initial. For duplicates a number is appended to this login. Your password is the last six digits of your ss#.
Is my login to the computer network different than my login to NICC Xpress?
Your login is the same and your initial password is the same. If you change one password it does not automatically change the other one. To avoid confusion make both passwords the same when changing them the first time.
Where can I store my computer files for class?
All students have a network “home” drive known as the H: on the network. Removable storage devices can be used but be aware that they can fail at anytime. The safest place to store important class files is on your H drive.
If I save my work on my H drive, how do I take it home to work on it?
If you have an Internet connection at home you can access you H drive from home using Xpress’s Remote Access tab (instructions on how to use Remote Access can be found on the welcome page after click the tab). You can also download a piece of software called “NetDrive” that allows you to map a drive on your home PC to your network H drive (instruction available under the Remote Access tab in Xpress).
