Northeast Iowa Community College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and subscribes to its Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP), one of several pathways leading to reaffirmation of accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission.
AQIP calls upon institutions to undergo a systems appraisal every four years. This is an opportunity for an institution to get expert, objective, third-party feedback on its strengths and opportunities for improvement. The systems appraisal is based on a systems portfolio submitted by NICC every four years. The systems portfolios cover the six AQIP categories, describing processes, results and improvement in each system, and shows evidence that the institution continues to meet the Higher Learning Commission's criteria for accreditation.

Accreditation of College Programs and Partnerships
The automotive training program at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar has received accreditation by NATEF and The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).
The program in dental assisting is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of approval without reporting requirements. The NICC EMT-Paramedic program meets all requirements as outlined in the United States Department of Transportation and the Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic National Standard Curriculum.
