NICC Hosting Shark Week Fundraiser April 24 – 28 on the Peosta Campus
April 20, 2017
PEOSTA—Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) will be hosting a Shark Week Fundraiser at the Peosta campus during “Fins Up Spring Fling Week” from April 24 - 28.
The college is partnering with The Red Basket Project to help supply feminine hygiene products for the campus. In addition, the college will also be collecting donations to help The Red Basket Project “bring dignity back to women, one tampon at a time,” in the tri-state area.
Donations can be made anytime between 7 a.m.-6 p.m. next Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday at the front office reception area near the bridge entrance of the main building. Donations are also being collected in the Student Life office near the cafeteria throughout the week. At both locations, donation boxes are located for drop-offs. Hygiene products and cash donations are accepted.
During the Spring Fling barbecue on April 25, staff and students eat free if they donate a box/package of feminine hygiene products or $1 from each meal will be donated to the Red Basket Project.
The Red Basket Project is run by co-founders Ann McDonough and Beth Gilbreth, and they have been distributing tampons and pads to local females who are experiencing homelessness or living in poverty. While not all students at NICC are living in poverty, there are, however, a handful who are without such necessities. By donating money and/or products, community members and college staff will help students and participate in an even bigger movement.
