Welding (GMAW)

Subject Area: Advanced Manufacturing

Award: Career Pathway Certificate

Location: Manchester, Oelwein, Peosta

Description

The Welding (GMAW) Career Pathway Certificate program teaches the principles of interpreting manufacturing-part blueprints, use of basic measuring tools and identification of welding symbols.

Students will also learn Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) processes, principles, benefits and the development of safe working habits and familiarity with welding-related equipment. This program is designed to upskill your welding ability to successfully pass the American Welding Society's GMAW test, which is an industry-recognized assessment.

This program will contain the following courses:

Course
Welding Blueprint Reading
Introduction to Welding, Safety, and Health of Welders
Basic Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
Total Hours - 160 hours

Graduates of this Career Pathway Certificate program may enter the workforce or transfer course credit into the Welding diploma program. For a listing of courses and how they transfer, visit the transfer webpage and select "Credit for NICC non-credit coursework."

You may qualify to earn a Career Pathway Certificate at no cost if you meet all eligibility requirements.

Employment Information

The annual income range for Welding (Basic) Career Pathway Certificate graduates is $28,388 - $37,636.

Source: EMSI; Salary range represents 10th percentile - median annual wage for related occupations ​within a 100-mile radius from the center distance between Calmar and Peosta Campuses.

Future Ready Iowa is an initiative led by the governor to build Iowa’s talent pipeline by meeting the goal of 70 percent of all Iowans to have a two- or four-year college degree, industry recognized certificate or other credential that meets employer need by 2025. Northeast Iowa Community College has the programs necessary to meet this goal.
