Degree Descriptions

Many degree options are available to students entering Northeast Iowa Community College. The Academic Advising staff is available to work with all students to discuss what degree and program is right for their particular career goals.

Associate of Arts (AA)

This broad degree is designed for transfer into a four-year college or university. This degree can be completed in approximately two years when enrolled full-time.

Associate of Science (AS)

The AS degree is designed for transfer into a four-year college or university with a focus on programs that are math and science oriented. This degree can be completed in approximately two years when enrolled full-time.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS)

This degree is designed for employment or transfer to a four-year college or university on a parallel course evaluation basis with an emphasis on high-quality technical courses. This degree can be completed in approximately two years when enrolled full-time.

Diploma

A diploma is an academic award obtained in 12 months or less to prepare you for entry- to mid-level employment. Many programs provide an opportunity to earn an associate degree with an additional year of study.

Certificate

These are short programs that provide training to gain, renew or enhance skills for current employment, employment marketability or to complete a condensed training. The certificate completion times vary based on program of study.

Career Pathway Certificate

These are short-term, workforce certificates that qualify completers for entry level employment and may prepare them to enter a diploma or degree program.
