Welding (GMAW)

Award: Career Pathway Certificate

Overview:

The Welding (GMAW) Career Pathway Certificate program teaches the principles of interpreting manufacturing-part blueprints, use of basic measuring tools and identification of welding symbols.

Students will also learn Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) processes, principles, benefits and the development of safe working habits and familiarity with welding-related equipment. At the conclusion of the program, students will have the skills to weld carbon steel in flat, horizontal and vertical positions with .035 or .045 diameter wire following American Welding Society (AWS) standards:

This program will be delivered and assessed in the order listed below:

Six (6) credits from the Welding (GMAW) Career Pathway Certificate are transferable into the NICC Welding diploma program. In order to earn NICC credit for Career Pathway Certificate coursework, students must earn a minimum grade of C-.

It is easy to apply to the Welding Career Pathway Certificate program! Simply follow the steps below to complete the application and assessment process. 

Step 1: Attend a Jobs with a Future Event

Register to attend a Jobs with a Future event. You will learn about in-demand careers in advanced manufacturing, earning potential and local employment and training options to get started in your career. Some events include networking sessions with industry leaders.

If you plan to enroll in a Career Pathway Certificate, attendance at a Jobs with a Future event is mandatory.

Step 2: Application and Assessment

There is no fee to apply, and applications are available at a Jobs with a Future event. Applicants to this program are required to complete an admission assessment, National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC). Assessment is offered at Iowa Workforce Development Offices in Dubuque and Decorah. Please bring your application to the assessment.

Step 3:  Interview

Interview with business and project team leaders for acceptance to the Career Pathway Certificate program!

You may qualify to earn a Career Pathway Certificate at no cost if you meet all eligibility requirements.

Welding (GMAW)

Graduates of this Career Pathway Certificate program may enter the workforce or transfer credit into the NICC Welding diploma program. Course transfer information is listed in the chart below.
