The Calmar Learning Center provides services to all students free of charge. Students may receive assistance with their homework as well as receive supplemental instruction in reading, writing, study skills, note-taking, test taking, time management and computer skills. Assistance is available in many areas of study including:
Calmar Learning Center instructors work with students individually or in small groups. ACT Compass® and HESI test preparation is available. Peer tutoring from students who have already mastered a course may be scheduled on an as-needed basis.
The Calmar Writing Center is free and available to all NICC students. The writing center instructor helps students with written assignments for any class as well as résumés and scholarship applications. In one-on-one conferences, the writing instructor offers suggestions at all steps of the writing process including brainstorming, drafting, revising and editing. Students may receive assistance in correcting punctuation, grammar and spelling errors. They also may receive guidance in formatting documents, creating citations and outlining speeches. Students may call or visit to schedule appointments with the writing instructor.
