Opportunity Dubuque is a nationally-recognized, collaborative job training effort developed in response to local employers' needs for a skilled workforce. Through this initiative, individuals complete industry-driven certifications to upgrade their skills or launch their careers. A win-win for students and employers, Opportunity Dubuque builds career pathways for students to enter the workforce and continue their education and training while filling employers’ demand for talent in high-wage, high-demand careers. Since 2012, Opportunity Dubuque has trained, through Career Pathway Certificate programs, and employed hundreds of individuals in automotive, advanced manufacturing, construction, culinary, customer service, healthcare, information technology and transportation careers. Tuition is often free for qualifying students to participate through state and local funding since they are ineligible for traditional college financial aid.
New in 2019, child care support is available to those who qualify within specific Career Pathway Certificate (CPC) programs. In partnership with Greater Dubuque Development Corporation and Opportunity Dubuque, the College will provide child care assistance at no cost while students are in select CPC program classes at the Dubuque or Peosta locations. Also, full-time employed graduates from select CPC programs, in Dubuque or Peosta, may qualify for additional child care support for up to 12 months at a licensed or registered child care provider.
