Service Learning

Students at Northeast Iowa Community College are encouraged to impact their community and world through service learning. The iMPACT student leadership team and campus clubs, organizations and honor societies offer service learning opportunities throughout the year. Past opportunities have included blood drives, 5K runs, Adopt-a-Highway, Fall Fest, the Student Crisis Fundraiser, Dubuque Day of Caring and more.

Alternative Spring Break Service Trip

Every year, groups from both the Peosta and Calmar campuses participate in a service trip during spring break. The trip consists of a week of service and taking in the sights and culture of the community we are serving. Recent groups have traveled to Memphis, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, Nashville, Washington D.C, Boston, Phoenix and Houston.  Students have had the opportunity to help serve in homeless shelters, after-school programs, medical supply collections, food distribution centers, community gardens and more. The trip is affordable, with fundraising available, but has a limited number of spaces.‌ Applications are available each fall and are due in early December.

Fall Fest at Calmar Campus

Fall Fest is an annual fair/community event that NICC offers to northeast Iowa every year on the Thursday after Labor Day. Fall Fest offers family fun and in the past has included inflatables, carnival games, balloon artists, a dunk tank and much more! Opportunities are available to volunteer as an individual or with your campus organization or club. If you love to see the young and old smile, volunteer at Fall Fest!

Annual Student Crisis Fundraisers

Each October, both NICC campuses raise funds for students who find their selves in crisis and are in danger of having to drop out of school due to financial reasons. Students are invited to be volunteer time and provide donations for the silent auction. This is a great opportunity to help fellow students and have a great time while doing it!

Dubuque Days of Caring

Scheduled every year on the last Friday and Saturday in April, Dubuque Days of Caring is an event where volunteers from around the Dubuque area will join local charities and organizations to work on one-time service projects. Participating organizations are matched with volunteers from the community and local businesses who choose to give their time, talents and services to impact the community's needs including painting, landscaping, washing windows, general cleaning and lawn maintenance. It's an incredible way to help the community and make a difference!
