Work-Study Positions

On-campus job opportunities are available to NICC students. Also known as work-study, student employment at NICC is a great way to earn extra money for college expenses. Student workers will also discover new interests and gain valuable work experience while working part-time on campus.

  • Pay rate starts at $12 per hour
  • Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine type of work eligibility
  • Earnings are paid directly to students through direct deposit as a regular paycheck every two weeks
  • Hours vary based on each position and your available hours (maximum is 20/hours per week)

The Student Life Ambassador Program is a leadership program that offers Northeast Iowa Community College students an opportunity to represent and promote the College to current and prospective students, and their families.

Student Life Ambassadors will introduce visitors to campus life and College traditions and achievements by conducting campus tours, promoting student clubs & campus activities and serve as a leader and voice of the student body.

Job Description/Duties:

The program ambassador is a unique opportunity for students to showcase and share information about their degree program at NICC from the student's perspective.

  • Providing representation at college events, visit days, and program previews
  • Leading campus tours and sharing their experiences at the college and in the program
  • Providing program/college testimonials and videos
  • Engaging with campus visitors and prospective students
  • Participating in recruitment calling or one-on-one in-person visits
  • Mentoring a first-year student or being mentored by a second-year ambassador or faculty/staff member
  • Visiting their high school with a representative to share their experiences at NICC and in the program
  • Assisting new students during the first week of class and at orientation
  • Mentoring or working with undecided students
  • Participating in Career Days with younger students
  • Serving as front-line greeters at the admissions/reception desk and recruitment events

Baseball Manager Peosta Athletics - Baseball $12/hour

Position Overview:

The Baseball Student Manager plays an essential role in supporting the daily operations of the college baseball team. The student manager assists coaches and players with practice and game-day logistics, equipment management, video coordination, and other administrative tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in sports management, coaching, or athletics administration.

Job Description/Duties:

  • Set up and break down equipment for practices and games (e.g., balls, nets, batting cages).
  • Maintain and organize team equipment, uniforms, and gear.
  • Assist with practice drills by shagging balls, operating pitching machines, and supporting coaches as needed.
  • Record games and practices as needed; upload and manage video content for analysis.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and order of Cougar Athletics Center and storage areas.
  • Run errands and provide administrative support (e.g., updating rosters, Fueling Station, laundry, etc.).
  • Communicate effectively with coaching staff and team members.
  • Attend all home games and selected practices, as determined by the coaching staff.

Job Qualifications/Skills:

  • Must be a current student eligible for the Federal Work-Study program.
  • Interest in athletics and baseball; prior experience is a plus but not required.
  • Reliable, punctual, and organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and work in outdoor conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of video recording/editing tools preferred (e.g. Synergy).

Athletics - Marketing  Peosta Athletics $12/hour

The Northeast Iowa Community College Athletic Department is seeking a reliable, motivated and enthusiastic work-study student to assist with a variety of media, event and operations tasks. This position offers valuable hands-on experience in sports media, event management and communications, ideal for students interested in sports, broadcasting, digital media or related fields.

Job Description/Duties:

  • Capture Photos & Videos: Take high-quality photos and video footage at athletic events for use in recaps, social media, and archives.
  • Event Support: Assist with gameday setup, takedown, and general event operations to ensure smooth execution of events.
  • Scorekeeping & Stats: Help keep official scores and record statistics during games using designated software or manual tracking.
  • Broadcast Assistance: Support the live broadcasting team with setup, technical needs, and in-game operations.
  • Social Media Content Creation: Help design and post content (photos, graphics, updates) for the department's official social media platforms. 
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned, including administrative support and departmental errands.

Job Qualifications/Skills:

  • Comfortable using or learning technology and media equipment
  • Ability to work nights and weekends based on game schedules

Are you a creative and detail-oriented student with an interest in marketing, social media, and career development? NICC Career Services is looking for a motivated student employee to assist with various career-related initiatives and activities that support students and alumni across the district.

Job Description/Duties:

  • Help update and enhance NICC’s career platforms, including Candid Career and the FOCUS 2 Career Assessment.
  • Assist in designing and developing Career Services handouts and electronic resources.
  • Help manage the MyCampus Group: "Career & Transfer Hub" examples of potential activities, including:
    • Posting discussion topics and career-related content
    • Marketing Career Services events
    • Promoting transfer college resources and campus visits
    • Sharing general career resources for students
    • Help create student and employer spotlights.
    • Assist with on campus Career Services promotion such as cafe events or remote events.
    • Assist with a Marketing plan such as: Chase Your Career ?s or *Chase’s Career Corner, or Chase’s Career Trivia for prizes and NICC swag.
    • Conduct surveys or informal polls to gather insights on what resources or topics students are most interested in.

  • Support Alumni and Employer outreach for career fairs and marketing efforts.

  • Enrolled in the Marketing & Digital Media AAS or Graphic Design program (open to other students with relevant skills).
  • Creative mindset with an interest in social media marketing, graphic design, and digital content creation.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • 5-10 hours per week, with flexible scheduling. Some project work may be completed outside of regular office hours.

As Chase Cougar you will attend various athletic and community events where the mascot has been requested to appear. The mascot will appear at a variety of athletic, student life and community events that align with the mission and values of Northeast Iowa Community College. Appearances may include but are not limited to campus visit days, student life events, student orientation, athletic competitions and parades.

Job Qualifications/Skills:

Wearers of the Chase Cougar mascot costume must demonstrate the core values of the mascot - strength, determination and leadership. In addition to these characteristics, the performer will need to:

  • Be a student of good financial and academic standing with the College
  • Able to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Be physically fit and within the costume manufacturer's suggested height range (5’10” - 6’1”)
  • Have the physical capability to perform required actions, stunts and activities
  • Positively interact well with children, teens and adults
  • Agree to complete a training module and sign the Mascot Code of Conduct. Failure to comply with the Code of Conduct will result in termination of performance duties.

As a mascot handler and member of Chase’s Crew, you will attend various athletic and community events where the mascot has been requested to appear. The Student Life Office will function as the supervisor of this role. 

 Job Qualifications/Skills:

Crew Members must demonstrate the core values of the mascot - strength, determination and leadership. In addition to these characteristics, handlers will need to:

  • Be a student of good financial and academic standing with the College
  • Able to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Positively interact well with children, teens and adults
  • Observe the crowd and environment for any safety issues and respond accordingly

Milker Calmar Iowa Dairy Center $12/hour

Job Description/Duties: 

  • Assist with milking shifts at Iowa’s Dairy Center.  Milking shifts are at 4:00am, noon and 8:00pm daily.  Shifts typically last 2.5 hours which includes time to power wash the parlor.  
  • May be scheduled to assist with daily calf chores which occur at 5:00am and 5:00pm.  
  • May be scheduled for evening robot chores prior to the 8:00pm milking shifts.
  • Cows calve on a daily basis and at all times throughout the day. Therefore newborn calves born during your shift and their dams must be processed including colostrum administration.

 Job Qualifications/Skills:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to stand for 2.5 hours during milking shift
  • Ability to lift 80 pounds
  • Strong communication skills especially with the full-time employees and your co-workers.  
  • Ability to begin milking shifts promptly at 4:00am, noon and 8:00pm
  • Ability to be scheduled every other weekend and holiday.
  • Ability to strictly adhere to the protocols established by the Dairy Center farm managers and the Diary Foundation Board of Directors.
