Commercial Vehicles

Class A CDL

Commercial truck driving offers you the freedom of the open road and the stability of an in-demand career. Northeast Iowa Community College offers the Semi-Truck Driving program that can be completed in just a few short weeks through online classes and a hands-on driving skills lab. Tuition assistance for those who qualify.

Class B CDL

Learn to operate trucks that require a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL), such as concrete mixer trucks, snow plows and garbage trucks through individual and classroom instruction and hands-on driving. You will develop skills in backing, turning and safe driving on both rural and suburban roads and become proficient in vehicle inspections. Training vehicle provided by your employer. Certified Testing Site 

Northeast Iowa Community College has Iowa Department of Transportation certified testing sites in Calmar, Peosta, Oelwein and Waukon for Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). You must hold a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) for at least 14 days before you can complete the required three tests; Pre-Trip, Skills and Road. Bus and Passenger Endorsements

Learn to safely operate a school bus or multiple passenger vehicle to update your Class A, B or C (passenger only) Commercial License with bus and passenger endorsements. Training covers basic operations of the bus or vehicle, safe operating practices, advanced operating practices, vehicle maintenance and non-vehicle maintenance in a combination of classroom, online instruction and hands-on driving. 

Hazmat Endorsement

The Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration requires anyone who handles hazardous materials to have up-to-date training. Our online training can be completed in two weeks and covers Hazard Classification, Hazardous Materials Table, Shipping Papers, Marking and Placards, Loading and Segregation, and Transportation Safety Awareness.

Driver Education

Driver education significantly reduces teen traffic accidents and tickets. Northeast Iowa Community College driver education courses teach novice drivers the knowledge and driving skills necessary to become safe, low-risk, responsible drivers. The class satisfies the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements. Learn more about Driver Education

Recreational Vehicles

Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course

This learn-to-ride safety program addresses basic motorcycle knowledge, rider perception and risk management, and includes online, 5 hours of classroom and 10-hours of hands-on riding instruction.

Moped Rider Course

This course is classroom-only and is required by the state of Iowa for students 14 years of age or older without a driver's license. Students learn the rules of the road, safe driving skills and laws governing moped use. To attend the Moped Rider course you must be a minimum 13 years of age.

Mandated Driving

Impaired driving classes, provided by the Department of Transportation, help reduce the risk of future accidents on the roadways. Our Defensive Driving class from the National Safety Council is one of the most widely used driver safety programs in the world. The courses train drivers in collision prevention techniques while promoting courtesy and cooperation on the road. Successful completion of these courses may qualify drivers for ticket dismissal and/or insurance discounts. Search for mandated driving courses.
