HESI LPN to ADN Entrance Exam
To enter the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program, students are required to complete the HESI LPN to ADN Entrance Exam. This is a 75-item comprehensive exam for Licensed Practical nurses seeking entrance into the ADN program that identifies strengths and weaknesses in PN content areas and the possible need for remediation prior to entrance. The results include personalized remediation content, tagged directly to content in Elsevier LPN texts, to address each student’s unique knowledge deficits and provides specific feedback about subjects answered incorrectly. Detailed online reports are provided with HESI exams for students at the conclusion of the exam.
Students wishing to enter the Transitioning from Practice into Associate Degree Nursing course are required to achieve the minimum score of 850 before being allowed to enter the course. All are highly encouraged to prepare thoroughly for the exam.

The testing schedule is limited; don’t wait and risk your seat in Transitioning from Practice into Associate Degree Nursing! Remember that if you do not achieve the minimum score you will need to remediate, study more and retest.
Remember that the testing must be done on the scheduled days in a computer lab on the Calmar or Peosta campus. No specific texts are required to prepare for this exam. Standard PN NCLEX prep books and LPN nursing knowledge will help you be successful on this exam. Prep books are available in both campus libraries, Learning Centers and general online resources.
NICC is transitioning to using Brightspace/HonorLock for HESI exams starting in September, 2020. Do not use ProctorU, as the test dates no longer exist for scheduling in their system. Exams will continue to be remote through Brightspace and HonorLock for proctoring.
NICC will return to scheduling your exam. Test dates are:

- Friday, September 18, 2020 1-4pm
- Wednesday, October 7, 2020 1-4pm
- Friday, October 23, 2020 9am-Noon
- Wednesday, November 4, 2020 1-4pm
- Friday, November 6, 2020 1-4pm
- Wednesday, December 2, 2020 1-4pm
- Friday, December 4, 2020 9am-Noon
*Dates for 2021 will be added during 4th Quarter 2020 and emailed to those interested.
When emailing or calling to schedule, please advise which test you need to take (A2-Entry Level 1st time or LPN to ADN-1st time, etc.). Email: email@example.com to be added to a test date.
You will be emailed instructions about registering and paying for your exam through Evolve and general information about the exam you are taking. If you already have a payment ID# from Mary Kay Kellogg-Strong, this payment ID# is still valid to use.
PLEASE make sure you pay for your exam PRIOR to the date you are testing. You will not be allowed to take the exam if you are showing unpaid through Evolve.
On the day of your exam, you will be sent an email with your Access Code and instructions on how to access the Evolve website to take your exam through Brightspace.
Please be reminded you need a webcam on your computer for HonorLock. You are allowed a basic calculator and pen/pencils and scratch paper only. No phones or other devices.
On-Campus HESI entrance tests are still not available and undetermined as to when these will resume.
