CPR & First Aid Training
Cardiac arrest remains a leading cause of death. When a crisis occurs, survival depends entirely on the immediate response of bystanders. While roughly 90% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests are fatal, bystander CPR can improve a person's chance of survival. Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) provides the professional, hands-on training you need to step forward with confidence.
Flexible Options to Fit Your Training Needs
Community Classes: In-Person and Hybrid
We offer Heartsaver CPR and First Aid designed to educate you on basic life-saving measures that can make a major impact during an emergency situation. These classes are available at campus and center locations throughout the year. View our schedule of upcoming Heartsaver sessions.
Advanced Training for Healthcare Professionals
NICC also provides Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider courses for professionals in the healthcare industry. Classes are offered throughout the year in the Calmar and Dubuque areas. View training options for healthcare providers.
Hybrid Training
Not available to meet for an in-person class or is the training time-sensitive? The AHA offers blended learning options. By registering through NICC, you receive online access to videos, information and knowledge checks for the course. After completing the online training, schedule a time with an AHA instructor to complete the hands-on skill practice, ask questions to clarify material and complete the skill test to earn the AHA completion card.

Automated External Defibrillators
While chest compressions maintain vital blood flow during a cardiac emergency, an automated external defibrillator (AED) is the only tool that can restore the heart to its normal rhythm. These devices are designed for anyone to use—featuring clear voice prompts and simple visual diagrams that guide a rescuer through every step. Because a patient's chance of survival drops 10% for every minute left untreated, having an accessible AED is a critical investment for any organization.
The American Heart Association (AHA) doesn't recommend one specific AED over another. That is why NICC acts as your trusted local distributor for Zoll® and Lifepak® AEDs—selected specifically for their intuitive design and ease of use. We provide everything your business or municipality needs to safeguard your property, including indoor mounting cabinets, weatherized outdoor setups for parks or trails, replacement batteries, fresh pads and expert ongoing service.

NICC Rescue Ready Network AED Access Program
According to the AHA, more than 15% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in a public location; therefore, public-access AEDs and community training play a vital role in early defibrillation. As a business owner, facility manager or nonprofit leader, keeping emergency equipment compliant shouldn't add to your daily checklist. Through the NICC Rescue Ready Network, our community AED access program—which is free to join—we will support the AEDs at your location. More than 600 AED units are already enrolled across our regional system.
We track software updates released by the manufacturer. To ensure continuous emergency readiness, we monitor your battery and pad expiration timelines, perform the routine replacements and invoice your business only for the cost of the supplies.
Why it makes smart business sense:
- Software Updates: We track your AED for any potential updates.
- Direct Manufacturer Savings: As a nonprofit organization, NICC purchases supplies directly from the manufacturer to pass the savings along to you.
- Trade-in Rebate Values: We track unit manufacture dates so your AEDs are updated before their service life ends, returning trade-in rebates directly to you.
- Equipment Support: If your device is ever deployed on a patient, NICC has the pads and batteries on hand to return your AED to active service.
