Award: Career Pathway Certificate
Location: Calmar, Peosta
Individuals will be prepared for entry-level work in the carpentry, HVAC and electrical construction trades or to pursue additional education or training in construction trades. The program includes a comprehensive core track that teaches job readiness and teamwork skills, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) construction safety principles and American Heart Association CPR/First Aid. In a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on lab experience, students will be introduced to basic construction concepts and technical skills including rough framing, concrete, insulation, building codes and permits, basic HVAC, electrical and plumbing and finish carpentry.

Step 1: Attend a Construction Trades Career Event
Register to attend a Construction Trades Career Event. You will learn about in-demand careers in construction, earning potential, local employment and training options to get started in your career. Some events include networking sessions with industry leaders.
If you plan to enroll in a Career Pathway Certificate, attendance at a Construction Trades Career Event is mandatory. Register for a Career Event online.
Step 2: Application and Assessment
There is no fee to apply, and applications are available at a Construction Trades Career Event. Applicants to this program are required to complete an admission assessment, the National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC). Assessment is offered at Iowa Workforce Development Offices in Dubuque and Decorah. Please bring your application to the assessment.
Step 3: Interview
Interview with business and program team leaders for acceptance to the Career Pathway Certificate program.
You may qualify to earn a Career Pathway Certificate at no cost if you meet all eligibility requirements.
With an annual income range of $22,528 - $31,108 and a projected growth of 4.9%, the career outlook for Building Construction Career Pathway Certificate (CPC) graduates is growing.

Future Ready Iowa is an initiative led by the governor to build Iowa’s talent pipeline by meeting the goal of 70 percent of all Iowans to have a two- or four-year college degree, industry recognized certificate or other credential that meets employer need by 2025. Northeast Iowa Community College has the programs necessary to meet this goal.
