Description

Individuals will be prepared for entry-level work in the carpentry, HVAC and electrical construction trades or to pursue additional education or training in construction trades. The program includes a comprehensive core track that teaches job readiness and teamwork skills, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) construction safety principles and American Heart Association CPR/First Aid. In a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on lab experience, students will be introduced to basic construction concepts and technical skills including rough framing, concrete, insulation, building codes and permits, basic HVAC, electrical and plumbing and finish carpentry.

Graduates of this Career Pathway Certificate program can immediately enter the workforce or transfer 1.5 credits into the Northeast Iowa Community College Carpentry program. A Northeast Iowa Community College success coach is available to guide graduates through the job-seeking process.

Enrollment Requirements

It is easy to apply to the Building Construction Career Pathway Certificate program! Simply follow the steps below to complete the application and assessment process. 

Step 1: Attend a Construction Trades Career Event

Register to attend a Construction Trades Career Event. You will learn about in-demand careers in construction, earning potential, local employment and training options to get started in your career. Some events include networking sessions with industry leaders.

If you plan to enroll in a Career Pathway Certificate, attendance at a Construction Trades Career Event is mandatory. Register for a Career Event online.

Step 2: Application and Assessment

There is no fee to apply, and applications are available at a Construction Trades Career Event. Applicants to this program are required to complete an admission assessment, the National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC). Assessment is offered at Iowa Workforce Development Offices in Dubuque and Decorah. Please bring your application to the assessment.

Step 3: Interview

Interview with business and program team leaders for acceptance to the Career Pathway Certificate program.

You may qualify to earn a Career Pathway Certificate at no cost if you meet all eligibility requirements.

Career Pathway
